The Parr 3911 Shaker Hydrogenation Apparatus is a compact and intuitive system that allows users to treat chemicals with hydrogen, pressure, and heat. This benchtop system can be used to synthesize and modify organic compounds through catalytic hydrogenation, but can also be used for applications involving liquid and gas mixing at a pressure of up to 5 atm/(60 PSIG). The Parr hydrogenator uses sealed reaction bottles connected to a hydrogen reservoir, and the air is then removed, the pressure applied, and a vigorous shaking then activates the catalytic reaction. Progress of the reaction can be followed by observing the pressure drop in the system. The Parr 3911 Shaker Hydrogenation Apparatus admits hydrogen to the bottle, evacuates the bottle, and fills the hydrogen tank-all without disturbing the bottle connection. Separate gages show the bottle pressure and the tank pressure at all times. The four-liter gas tank of the hydrogenation apparatus, bottle holder, and a sturdy shaker mechanism are arranged in a compact assembly on a steel base for convenient operation on a laboratory bench or in a hood.
