Please read all of the following and examine the photos.Feel free to ask for additional photos in messages if you want me to focus on something specific. There aren't enough photo slots on the listing to get every angle of every piece, so please be aware that not all spots of paint loss are visible (anything not visible is pretty minor, and most paint loss is on the fronts of the animals or along front rim of mounts). Also, because these do not sit flat when upside down, there wasn't really a good way to clearly photograph the backs/inside of them unless individually, since they all end up resting at different angles, so I focused on small groups of front close-ups, and then close-ups of a few of the more significant issues. The backs/interiors are in generally fine condition aside from some spots of yellowing and/or slightly dirty spots (which actually seem to mostly be light spatters of paint, or perhaps paint that rubbed off from others if they were stacked on top of each other at some point. The rim of the back edges also seem a bit dirty in some spots.
9 out of 10 (missing the bengal tiger) rare plastic "3D" animal trophy mounts, collectable Nabisco Shredded Wheat cereal premiums. I have seen them dated as 1955, and 1959; 1959 would make sense, as my father would have been about 5 at the time, and it makes more sense he would collect them at that age then as an infant.
They are made out of a very thin plastic, similar to a brittle celluloid, but not quite. Due to their fragility and tendency to be easily crushed and cracked, they are quite rare. I have seen the method of making these referred to as "vacuforming".
Overall the set is in very nice condition, with no major cracks or damage. Holes in tabs are punched. Many have some bits of paint loss. A few have tiny cracks on the rims (highlighted in last 4 photos), and there are some minor aesthetic flaws that I will describe after pointing out the cracks/dents in the close-up photos:
Deer (photo #7) - small dent along the rim of the mount
Boar (photo #8) - hanging tab is cracked from hole to outer edge, and some yellowing
Bison (photo #9) - small crack on outer edge/rim
Mountain goat (photo #10) - small dent on rim (similar to deer) and two cracks on rim on each side of the tab. Also a tiny hole at the base of the tab, right between the cracks.
Also:
Bear (photo #1 and 2) - small dent popping out of mount, seen near upper-left of the mount
Aside from these, there are some spots of paint loss I mentioned, some dirtiness on the white parts of the back/interiors (some is possible paint remnants), some spots of yellowing on the white interiors/edges, and some of the outer edges/rims of the mounts/plaques have a few spots that are very slightly warped (not sharply or dramatically, and not dented...the most clear example of this can be seen on the left side of the boar's mount in photo #3). The edges of the back rim on a few also have a slightly jagged spot where a tiny spot of plastic juts out, connected to a very thin "line" of extra plastic that goes around the rest of the rim: this seems to be a by-product of manufacturing, a spot where the plastic was cut/pressed or excess was removed.
Overall, a nearly complete set in generally excellent condition for its age and fragility. Please consider everything I've written, and request additional photos if you are having any reservations before purchasing.
Will be packaged very carefully and securely (due to these items' delicate nature, please unpack very carefully...I will use easy-peel "safe tape" on any lining/bubble wrap separating them, so that they can be unwrapped without too much force). Will be insured.
