Description
Wheatiescereal was one of the brands that would enclose prizes inside its packages in the Fifties to entice kids to encourage their parents to purchase that particular brand so they could benefit from the enclosed gift. Between 1953-54,
Wheaties
was enclosing pressed tin logos of automobile from the United States, England and Europe. You never knew what you were going to get when you bought a box of cereal. As a kid I traded with a lot of my friends to get logos I didn't have. I was always trying to get
General Motors
and
FoMoCo
logos because they had the most popular brands. I finally saved up 25¢, and with a
Wheaties
box top, mailed away for the complete United States Set of tin 3" diameter logos, all ten. What I got was ...
Willys
Studebaker
Nash
Packard
Kaiser
Hudson
Chrysler
Dodge
Plymouth
DeSoto
No
General Motors
or
FoMoCo
. Apparently
Wheaties
didn't get permission from those two companies to make their logos available. This is like the original I got as a child with the box they came in. Would look great framed in a shadow box.
